Known as the Murillo Velarde map, the centuries-old document
originally called "Carta Hydrographica y Chorographica de las Islas
Filipinas" was first published in 1734 in Manila by Jesuit priest Pedro
Murillo Velarde.
The map shows islands that are now known as Scarborough Shoals, marked
as Panacot, as part of Philippines territory. They are shown around 120
miles off the west coast of the main Philippine island of Luzon.
